@leigh in my house we're always at Floordrobe Zero, because the *minute* any article of clothing is on the floor, a cat *will* pee on it. I wish I were joking. We can't leave the bath mat on the bathroom floor, either. Gotta hang it up every time.

@dangillmor Tried to read the article on my phone and the ads and video were horrible. Maybe I’ll try again later from a Mac that has uBlock installed.

'#Xinjiang Week' in #Japan, at the #Osaka #WorldExpo was being framed as a celebration of local culture & innovation, but the absence of actual #Uyghur language or any #Islamic symbols tells a different story.
My latest for @mekongreview.com looks into #China’s systemic erasure & overseas propaganda efforts:

Sure!
But the fediverse of people chatting about the books they've read, music they've written or enjoyed, photos that they have taken, trips that they have made, places that they have explored, things that they have drawn, painted, made, programmed etc., or just sharing snippets from their lives? That is an amazing place!

Yes, fully agree. This account's following was built through years and years of fediverse advocacy, and that to large extent shapes the timeline I get served every morning. Which is one where it's hard to find uplifting nuggets between all the activists firing problems at each other.
For Social experience design I defined the notion of Personal social networking, which involves being very deliberate about formation of ones social graph, and take inspiration from how we do "social" offline.
https://coding.social/blog/reimagine-social/#personal-social-networking
I test-drove that idea by carefully curating a microblog account at a different server themed around the "Arts & Crafts". And lo and behold, the timeline is great! So it works. 😃
But the dominant Microblog abstraction and its app-centric realization give us very poor tools in our hands to be truly "Social, online". Test-driving Bonfire now, which has richer features, but at tradeoff of more complex UX that adds friction. I highlight them in my article.
@inquiline oh, you're very chill, considering. the behavior is abhorrent and has been tolerated out of politeness for far too long. i *am* hotheaded though. less than i used to be, and i manage to delete most of the verbal eviscerations that i write (6 tonight alone), but the rage is still boiling.
yeah it really is infuriating!!!!!

@decryption biggest issue with these is the eps panels. a lot of insurers will say no to that
@warkolm oh yeah? Fire risk or something?
i'm honestly really struggling w the dynamics here right now (as is apparent). i've withdrawn a bit from this account but it's sort of having the effect of changing the ratio of pleasant interactions *in the wrong direction* so kinda don't know what to do
the ratio of them that are taking offense at what they perceive as incivility towards them is also ... too much, leaving me spluttering
@inquiline i hear you. tbh i've found your responses to be masterclasses i wish you didn't need to give

🫸THE LEANING TOWER OF KYŌTO🫷
Looming over the rooftops behind our Flower Teahouse and kimono studio is one of Kyōto's most iconic symbols...the 46m tall Yasaka-no-tō (八坂の塔).
The pagoda, last rebuilt in 1440, is all that remains of Hōkan-ji, considered by some to be the city's oldest temple.
